Second Saturday Science

November Second Saturday Science

The IMAP (Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe successfully launched on September 24th aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The mission is designed to study the heliosphere's boundary, which protects the solar system from interstellar particles.  Mission objective: To map the boundary of the heliosphere, study how the Sun's particles are energized, and how the heliosphere interacts with local interstellar space.

Join us as we learn about the sun, the heliosphere, and the matter that gives them their amazing star qualities!

Second Saturday Science at Challenger Colorado is about giving families time to do science together. We provide hands-on, content-rich activities designed to encourage thoughtful engagement, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving among family members. Activities are leveled for school-age students and their parents/guardians and are coupled with a planetarium show highlighting the Colorado night sky.

Plan on spending at least an hour at the center working through activities and viewing the planetarium presentation.

This event is free for families, but registration is required.

September - May

December Second Saturday Science

Fly Balls & Flight Paths: The Physics of Baseball and Aeronautics
Join us for a family-friendly day of discovery where sports meet science! Explore how the same forces that send a baseball soaring through the air also lift airplanes into flight. Families will experiment with hands-on activities that reveal the physics behind pitching, hitting, and flight—discovering concepts like lift, drag, and trajectory in fun, interactive ways. Perfect for curious minds of all ages, this event combines motion, math, and teamwork for a home run of a learning experience!

We will be raising funds for the Martin K. Grantz Memorial Scholarship Fund.
